IFTE – Initiative for Teaching Entrepreneurship, Austria

The aim of the non-profit organisation IFTE (founded in 1999) is to promote young people’s entrepreneurial spirit and values for self-employment and professional independence – as an instrument for equal opportunities. Entrepreneurship Education stands for a dialogical form of communication between teachers and students and it is characterized by respect and encouragement.

IFTE’s entrepreneurial-educational approach originates from the economic-ethical rational of a market economy committed to the individual and to the society. Apart from business objectives this approach also observes the responsibility for disadvantaged persons in our society.

Through entrepreneurship education and the development of entrepreneurial attitudes, IFTE empowers young people in schools and social organizations to stimulate their economic and social integration by improving their business, academic and life skills.

IFTE has developed a subject-didactive concept for idea-and value-oriented teaching (TRIO MODEL for Entrepreneurship Education) and this concept is the basis for the series of workbooks ‘Wirtschaft verstehen – Zukunft gestalten‘ (Understanding Economy –Shaping the Future) used by more than 130.000 Austrian pupils and about 5.000 teachers.

IFTE is engaged in further education and training for teachers in Austria in close cooperation with the EESI-Impulse Centre for Entrepreneurship Education and the University College of Teacher Education Vienna/Krems – KPH, who uses the series of handbooks (“ENTREPRENEUR”) for Entrepreneurship Education, edited by IFTE, for the training of Austrian teachers in EE.

Internationally IFTE has been and is engaged in teacher training and the development of teaching materials within the European Network for Teaching for Training Entrepreneurship and within projects in South-East Europe, where it is working partly on behalf of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education and Women’s Affairs (BMBF).
IFTE is the host of the Global Entrepreneurship Week in Austria, since 2004 more than 5.500 students, teachers and Austrian entrepreneurs have got connected at the annual Entrepreneurship Summit.

IFTE is initiator and implementing institution of the entrepreneurial programme for young people „Start your project“ (www.startedeinprojekt.at), which encourages young people to develop their own ideas and to get them realised (using the project’s crowdfunding platform).
